58 candidates pick nomination forms to run for president in 2021

The Electoral Commission has released a list showing that fifty-eight candidates have so far picked nomination forms to run for president in the 2021 general elections.

The Commission started issuing nomination forms, supporter forms, and nomination guidelines for Presidential Elections on Monday, August 10.

"The aspirants will use the supporter forms to collect signatures indicating the support of not less than one hundred (100) registered voters in each of at least two thirds (2/3) of all the districts of Uganda,"  the EC chairman Justice Simon Byabakama recently said.

"Aspiring presidential candidates are encouraged to submit the lists of supporters to the Electoral Commission for verification at least two (2) weeks before the nomination dates." 

The exercise is now in the third week.

According to the list, which was released on August 21, five female aspirants have so far collected forms.

According to the current roadmap, presidential candidates will be nominated on November 2 and 3, and campaigns will run from Nov. 10, 2020 to Jan.8, 2021.

General elections will be from Jan. 10-Feb.8.
