The Inspector General of Police Gen Kale Kayihura has transferred the Bukomansimbi District Police Commander, Francis Ameru over the recent machete attacks in the area.
Kayihura has deployed Isabirye Karooli who was the commander in Charge of Operations Nagalama Police Station to take charge of Bukomansimbi.
Kayihura issued the directive over the weekend in a meeting with Police Commanders from Greater Masaka Region.
Ameru who was sent to Bukomansimbi less than a month ago failed to contain the crime in the area. Ameru is the same officer who was investigated after he lost his pistol during his tenure at Old Kampala Police Station.
At least 7 people including a retired senior police officer have been killed and close to 50 injured by machete welding thugs in the district since last year.
Kayihura camps in Masaka
Meanwhile, Gen Kayihura, has camped areas of Greater Masaka including Bukomansimbi and Lwengo following the New Year attack by machete-wielding assailants who killed four people dead.
President Museveni ordered Gen Kayihura to comb the areas for clues with the view of arresting suspected masterminds of the killers.
