KAMPALA. Police have identified one of the armed thugs killed in Kiboga on Wednesday as Ivan Lukwago a member of the notorious Bodaboda 2010 Association.

Bodaboda 2010 Patron Abdullah Kitatta remains incarcerated over charges of unlawful possession of military stores and failure to protect war materials. Kitatta and 12 others were in January this year arrested by the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) from various locations in Kampala following the murder of Case Clinic Accountant Francis Ekalugar. The group was also found with arms and ammunition.

Kitatta’s group had continuously been accused of engaging in acts of armed robbery, murder and kidnap among others. Now as Kitatta and his accomplices are facing trial, it seems the group’s remnants continue with criminal acts.

Nobert Ochom, the Wamala Region Police Spokesperson says Lukwago, one of the two armed thugs killed on Wednesday in Kiboga is a bodaboda cyclist who operated at Nabukeera Bus Park stage in Kampala and a member of Bodaboda 2010.

“His relatives have come to claim the body,” Ochom said. Lukwago and a yet to be identified accomplice were killed after robbing Asuman Mayanja a businessman in Kiboga town of Shs30million.

The two were part of a gang of four who trailed the businessman as he drove in a premio from Kiboga town on Wednesday morning. The thugs riding on two motorcycles ordered Mayanja to stop as they shot twice in the air at Kikubo trading center in Bukomero town council.

As the businessman stopped one of the thugs jumped into the car and grabbed the bag containing the money. However, Lukwago and the colleague were shot dead by the police that readily intervened as they attempted to escape.

The other two disappeared in the nearby bush with the gun and the bag of money. Ochom is meanwhile optimistic the fugitives will soon be arrested.

“We have leads already, we shall soon get them,” he said.
