A suspected burglar has been shot dead as he attempted to flee the scene of crime in Mutungo, Nakawa Division.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango says the yet to be identified suspect was shot by a security guard who responded to alarms raised by neighbours to his guard point on Wednesday morning.

“Three thugs attacked two residents of Mutungo namely Joseph Masiga and Pallorin Kansiime at around 0300hrs but the neighbours heard them and started making alarm that attracted a security personnel that was guarding nearby, who responded and found the thugs still in action,” Onyango said.

“He shot in the air to warn them but they ran. He shot one who died on spot,” he added.

Two others escaped. On searching the dead thug the security guard was able to recover a mobile phone that he had just stolen from one of the victims. He was also found with a purportedly stolen laptop.

The body has been taken to Mulago mortuary.

Meanwhile three thugs were arrested on Wednesday morning at EAGEN House on Kampala Road while unscrewing ACs.

The incident happened at around 3am when Police on foot patrol noticed the thugs and immediately alerted Police 999 patrol car, who moved and surrounded the house.

“They were arrested with the exhibits of ACs that they had just dismantled, four screw drivers, and four pillars,” Onyango told Kampala post on Wednesday afternoon.

The suspects have been identified as Ligan Nzuiko, Sandrika Sunday and Sam Mukigike all residents of Kisenyi Central Division Kampala.

They are being detained at Central Police Station Kampala on charges of burglary and theft.

“We have intensified patrols in Kampala Metropolitan Police to weed out these thugs,” Onyango revealed.
