KAMPALA. Several people have been arrested in Kampala as police quell riots over Bobi Wine’s detention.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said Police managed to quell demonstrations at Kisekka market and Arua Park, where rowdy youth were burning tires.
Owoyesigyire declined to reveal the number of those arrested, saying, “For more updates police will be addressing a press conference.”
Kyadondo East Member of Parliament, Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine) was arrested last Monday over campaign violence in Arua, during which the President’s convoy was attacked.
Police later revealed that the MP was found in illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. He was last Thursday charged with two counts of unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition and remanded at Makindye Military Barracks.
Since Bobi Wine’s detention, his supporters around the city have been protesting demanding for his release. Meanwhile, Military Police has been deployed in the city to calm the situation.
