A speeding vehicle has knocked dead a police officer as he returned from work in the wee hours of Thursday morning.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Kato Francis was the Officer in Charge of Kyebando Police Post and he was knocked dead as he returned from Kira Road Police Station where he had been deployed for the night.
"Kira road police with deep sorrows announce the death of Asp Kato the OC Kyebando Police Post.The officer was knocked dead by an unidentified speeding car while he was from duty at Kira road where he worked as duty officer. He was then returning to his duty beat kyebando and he met his death.The body has been taken to the city mortuary for a post mortem," a brief police statement from colleagues at Kira Police Station where he worked overnight reads.
It is not clear whether the driver of the killer vehicle intended to knock dead the officer because some reports indicate that the driver of the vehicle drove back after knocking the officer to confirm whether he was indeed killed.
