Two people have died and three others were severely injured in a Friday morning road accident on the Kampala-Mityana road in Wakiso District.

The accident at Bujjuko involved a commuter taxi UAT 905T and a Fuso Lorry UAY459M, all heading to Kampala. Charles Ssebambulidde, the Spokesperson Traffic and Road Safety says the accident occurred at around 6:30am after the lorry rammed into a stationary taxi from behind, squeezing it on the road pavement.

“We are waiting for a traffic report to ascertain whether the lorry developed a mechanical problem and failed to brake, because the taxi was well parked loading passengers,” Ssebambulidde says.

He identifies the deceased as Robert Tamale, the taxi driver and Lilian Nakawoya, a passenger. The two died on the spot, while Ali Muwanga, Ssempijja and Nanyonga, all passengers in the taxi have been rushed to Rubaga Hospital with severe injuries.

“We are yet to establish how many passengers were in the taxi, but we have arrested the lorry driver,” Ssebambulidde said without identifying the driver.
