Deputy IGP Muzeyi to Fast-track Regional Expansion of Police Band

The Deputy Inspector General of Police Maj Gen Sabiiti Muzeyi has pledged his support for the Uganda Police Band expansion to regional level.

Apart from the headquarters at Nsambya, the Uganda Police Band has one regional operational center based in North Kyoga region. Acting Police Director Music Dance and Drama, Superintendent of Police (SP) Okwi Okedi says there is need to establish more regional centers to “reduce on the wear and tear of instruments and wastage of time and resources.”

The Uganda police band is normally hired for different functions, both state and private across the country. Officiating at a pass out of 30 Uganda Police Band officers after a six months music course at the Police Band Headquarters Nsambya on Tuesday, the Deputy IGP pledged his efforts to ensure establishment of more Police Band regional centers for efficiency.

“We shall offer you all the support needed in order to operate and develop your career, even the expansion policy at regional level will be looked into,” he said. Gen Muzeyi congratulated the officers upon the training in music, which he said is a step in furthering their music career.

The trainees that included 25 males and five females, were trained in operation of different music instruments including; Trumpet, Tenor Saxophone, Piano, Trombone and E Flat Horn among others.

The course took place at Kampala Music School, which is examined by The Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) based in London. The officers graduated with different grades.
