Deputy Speaker Tayebwa Advocates for Transparent Governance

Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa has proposed that managing government programs like Emyooga and the Parish Development Model with a business approach can enhance their efficiency. He emphasized that just like in business, when customers are treated well and given a positive experience, sustainable growth is achievable. “The problem is that our dividends as government are structured in a certain way after every five years,” Tayebwa said.

He also suggested the use of blockchain technology to establish transparent systems, allowing the public to better appreciate government efforts. Blockchain, a peer-to-peer network that maintains transaction records across linked computers, can bolster data protection, streamline processes, and reduce fraud, thereby increasing trust and accountability.

Speaking at the launch of Dr. Dorothy Kyeyune's book, Without The Leader, There Is No Customer Experience, Tayebwa commended the author's focus on customer relations in Uganda’s private companies. He encouraged local businesses to invest in after-sales services, stressing the importance of fostering a sense of family rather than a one-time transaction.

Additionally, Tayebwa urged Dr. Kyeyune to explore customer experiences in the public sector, highlighting that such insights could improve the government's people-relations. Dr. Kyeyune shared that her book was inspired by an encounter with poor customer service and aims to foster better private sector relations in Uganda.
