Uganda Christian University (UCU) will today, Friday hold its 22nd graduation ceremony, with 3,368 students graduating in different disciplines.

The Guest of Honour is the First Lady and Minister for Education and Sports, Hon. Janet K. Museveni.

According to a statement from UCU, females graduands make up 1,711 while males are 1,657, of the total graduating population.

"95 students will graduate with First Class Degrees, with the overall best student being Sore Moureen, who scored 4.78 CGPA. She pursued a Bachelor’s of Human Resource Management," the statement reads.

In accordance with the COVID-19 safety protocols, a total of 200 guests will attend the event physically, at the Main Campus in Mukono.

"This will include staff, parents and students, among others. About 72 students will attend the ceremony at the main campus and the rest will virtually follow on the university’s social media sites and UBC TV," the University announced.

This is the second time UCU is holding a virtual graduation, the first being in December 2020. UCU issues transcripts on the graduation day and this gives students opportunity to get employed on time.

The graduation will be preceded by a Commissioning Service where students are prayed for and committed to the Lord by the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda and Chancellor of Uganda Christian University, His Grace, The Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu.

"We are graduating our students today because of the online opportunity that we stepped up when the lock down was instituted. We invested in equipment and strength of the internet, trained all lecturers and students to embrace online learning because it is the way to go. Another important aspect is goodwill and support from the University leadership, which encouraged and facilitated the process," University said.
