posted onDecember 15, 2021

Minister of Education and Sports Janet Museveni has said her ministry is working to ensure that schools are ready for re-opening in January of next year as has been promised by President Yoweri Museveni.

According to the minister, who is also the First Lady, some of the activities being conducted include training teachers and inspecting schools.

"Regarding the re-opening of schools, you recall that His Excellency the President announced a full re-opening of the economy including schools and institutions in January 2022. Guided by that pronouncement, preparations are being made to open," she said.

"Inspection has been done to establish the readiness of our schools and institutions, teachers are being trained and we plan to rehabilitate dilapidated structures in various schools and institutions," she added.

"I look forward to the re-opening of schools and institutions so that all our learners are able to get back to school and continue with their studies without disruption and also call for support from all stakeholders to the Ministry to enable us to achieve this undertaking."

Schools have been closed since March of 2020, leaving millions of students stranded at home unsure of when they will resume studying.

President Museveni has assured the country that, having secured enough vaccines to inoculate all the vulnerable groups, the economy will fully re-open come January.
