Police Tighten Security Ahead of 68th Makerere Graduation

According to Police Spokesperson Emilian Kayima, the Kampala Metropolitan Police are fully prepared to provide maximum security to ensure the event is successful.

The Police have tightened security at Makerere University ahead of its 68th graduation ceremony that will take place this week between Tuesday to Friday.

According to Police Spokesperson Emilian Kayima, the Kampala Metropolitan Police are fully prepared to provide maximum security to ensure the event is successful.

“The Commander Kampala Metropolitan Police and his team are fully prepared to provide security to the graduation ceremony at Makerere University,” Emilian Kayima said while addressing the media at Central Police Station on Monday.

“Our Traffic officers are also working hard to maintain good traffic flow around the University,” he added.

Kayima also warned those with intentions of disrupting the event that Police will apprehend and deal with them accordingly.  Some students whose names don’t appear on the graduation list had threatened to cause chaos and stifle the ceremony.

“For those who may want to spoil the event, please, keep home, parents have suffered a lot in mobilizing tuition for those students, leave them to enjoy their day, those who will do it will be apprehended,” he said.

Over 13,000 students are set to graduate at the event which usually takes place at Freedom Square, Makerere University.

The event which will be presided over by the Chancellor, Prof. Ezra Suruma will also see Nelson Mandela’s widow Winnie Madikizela receive an Honorary Doctor of Laws for her role in the fight against apartheid in South Africa.

According to the graduation program from the University, students from different colleges will be graduating on different days as indicated below;

• College of Veterinary Medicine, Animal Resources and Bio-security (CoVAB)

THURSDAY, 18TH JANUARY, 2018

• Makerere University Business School (MUBS)
