Faith Alupo, who has been the woman Member of Parliament for Pallisa District, has died, Parliament announced in a Twitter post.

"Parliament has learnt with sorrow of the untimely death of Hon Faith Alupo, Woman MP for Pallisa District which occurred at Mulago Hospital," reads the post. "May her soul rest in eternal peace."

The NRM-leaning legislator became an MP in June 2018 after the former Forum for Democratic Change's (FDC) Woman MP candidate for Pallisa, Catherine Achola was disqualified by the Electoral Commission from the race on grounds that the names she had used for nomination do not tally with those on her academic qualification.

She lost to Kevin Kaala Ojinga in the recently concluded NRM primaries.

Some reports have indicated that she had symptoms of the Covid19 though Mulago Hospital could not immediately confirm the cause of her death.

In Uganda, 4978 cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed, with 2317 recoveries and 56 deaths.
