Gen Saleh Hails Parish Revolving Fund Success in Acholi Region
Gen (Rtd) Caleb Akandwanaho, alias Salim Saleh, the chief coordinator of Operation Wealth Creation (OWC) and Chairman of the Uganda Development Forum (UDF), has lauded the impact of the Parish Revolving Fund (PRF) in the Acholi region. He described it as a shining example of what can be achieved through collective effort.
Gen Saleh noted that the achievement not only benefits Acholi but also serves as a model for other regions. “Today, our aspiration to reach the Parish level has been successfully realized; Acholi Land has accessed UGX 129.83 billion through the Parish Revolving Fund (PRF),” he said during his keynote speech at the conclusion of a two-day UDF conference held at the Gulu Logistics Hub in Gulu City under the theme “Meaning Business.”
The event brought together leaders from cooperative organisations, financial institutions, government agencies, private sector representatives, and policymakers, focusing on revitalising Uganda’s Cooperative Societies.
Gen Saleh emphasised the importance of financial inclusion in empowering vulnerable communities and strengthening economic resilience. He also addressed key challenges, including limited access to financing, inadequate infrastructure, and governance issues within cooperatives. His speech outlined innovative strategies to enhance operational efficiency and expand financial access in underserved areas.
The conference underscored the value of collaboration among government bodies, cooperative organisations, and the private sector to ensure the sustainable growth of the cooperative movement.
Participants called for urgent measures such as policy reforms, better training opportunities, and infrastructural improvements to create a more conducive environment for cooperatives.
Operation Wealth Creation continues to coordinate service delivery across Ministries, Agencies, and Departments, with a strong focus on fostering economic growth.
