Last week, in an endeavour to alleviate poverty in the Busoga region, the government, through the National Agricultural Advisory Services (NAADS), distributed 500 in-calf heifers to the residents.

This initiative aims to boost household income and improve livelihoods by strategically supporting dairy farming, a vital enterprise that ensures food security and daily income for many families.

The distribution of the heifers was carefully planned to cover several districts within Busoga, with the allocations as follows:

  • Iganga – 40
  • Kaliro – 30
  • Namayingo – 40
  • Bugiri – 50
  • Mayuge – 40
  • Luuka – 30
  • Kamuli – 50
  • Namutumba – 40
  • Jinja City – 40
  • Bugweri – 20
  • Buyende – 40
  • Jinja District – 40
  • Busoga Women Project – 40

The Prime Minister, Robinah Nabbanja, personally travelled to Iganga District to hand over the heifers to the eager residents. The atmosphere was filled with hope and anticipation as she addressed the crowd, emphasising the government’s commitment to supporting farmers and providing agricultural inputs for wealth creation.

The Prime Minister highlighted that dairy farming is a strategic enterprise targeted by the government because it ensures household food security and a steady daily income. She encouraged the recipients to maximise this opportunity to enhance their livelihoods and contribute to the broader goal of poverty alleviation in the region.

The residents of Busoga received the heifers with gratitude and a renewed sense of determination. Many expressed optimism that this initiative would significantly enhance their economic stability and overall quality of life.
