Kadaga Launches Parliament Journalists’ SACCO, Calls for Sustainable Investments
The Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga has on Thursday morning launched the Uganda Parliamentary Journalists Association (UPJA) SACCO.
Kadaga who is also the Patron of the Association advised the journalists to be financially disciplined and adopt a good investment plan if they are to better their economic welfare through the Sacco. She also advised the journalists to remain loyal and committed to grow the Sacco.
“Now that you are even more educated and digital, we should be able to build strong Saccos. But what are you going to do other than lending others money? You need to have bigger plans for serious investments,” Kadaga said before contributing cash of Shs3m to the Sacco.
State minister for Microfinance, Haruna Kasolo who presented a dummy cheque of Shs10m to the Sacco, advised parliament journalists especially the leadership against squandering the savings.
“You must have a transparent management system that gives out credit according to one’s savings because if you have not saved then you do not qualify for a loan even if you are the President of the Association. So this is something that the Sacco managers must take seriously,” Kasolo said.
State minister for Finance, David Bahati expressed strong belief and faith on the Parliament journalists’ Sacco adding that government has a lot of resources which can only benefit those who are organized.
