Singer Bebe Cool’s 2017 Music ‘Awards’ list in which he eliminated old time friend turned rival, Jose Chameleone, seems to be re-igniting the rivalry between the two top Ugandan artistes.
At the end of the year Bebe Cool, real name Moses Ssali released a list of his top artistes and performers of the year 2017.The list posted on his Facebook wall was dominated by mostly upcoming artistes and himself, leaving out Chameleone, Bobi Wine, Eddy Kenzo and the Goodlyf among other top artistes.
This list did not only attract a frenzy of social media reactions among fans, but has also prompted a fire back from some artistes who think should have been top on the “Katono” Star’s 2017 Music ‘Awards’ list. Prominent of these artistes is self-proclaimed Uganda’s Music Heavyweight Jose Chameleone, real name Joseph Mayanja.
Bebe Cool’s message
2017 was a great year for the music industry as we witnessed a lot of new talent take shape and position in the Ugandan music/entertainment industry.
At the same time we also witnessed old talent exit as the new young talent put a lot of pressure in the game, putting into consideration the major changes in types of music/beats/fashion and interest of the audiences.
Let me thank the club, radio and tv DJs in Uganda for the full unconditional support that they rendered to the young talent and good music.
As a top artist in Uganda, I have all the moral authority to say that if you did not hear your music play or your artists music play on radio, tv or club then you or your artist did not do well at all no matter New or Old talent because the DJs did their part without favoring any one.
Let me also thank the PRESS in Uganda, thank you so much as you covered 90% positive/constructive, competitive and no favouring of any one in the entertainment industry.
By the end of the year, it was clear that the Ugandan audience had picked back full interest and support of its local hardworking talent/artists and that's what we call patriotism.
The above is evident as all concerts organised during the festive season 2017 were fully attended more than the other years no matter how expensive the ticket was.
Below is my list of artists who deserve full recognition/credit for 2017 entertainment in Uganda & their songs accordingly.

Bebe Cool the added: “If I have not mentioned your name as an artist, or if I haven't mentioned your artist's name as a fan, you are free to edit my post and include yourself or artist.
Finally let me have this opportunity to thank my fans for supporting me through out last year as it wasn't an easy year as I did not do well musically. But I would like to say to you all that consider 2018 A BEBE COOL YEAR as I’m done with jokes in my music. It’s time to sing and I want to declare the first six months for my judgement for 2018. LET THE GAMES BEGIN.”
In a Facebook post on Wednesday Chameleone wrote,
“Action, Always speak louder than words!!!!
Action is the fine witness of your ability. Words even a baby can say,
DUE TO PUBLIC DEMAND
With the love and support, Great Britain, United Kingdom here we come. Not to shoot videos, no!!!
Not to pose on the London bridge- no!!!
To play you the hits of all times!!!It’s me again.
Naye banange, share and let your buddy know that the workaholic is coming soon.”
Chameleone may not have directly attacked Bebe Cool, with whom they started their music journey in the late 1990s in Kenya, but the insinuations in the post have been understood by their music fans as a response to Bebe Cool after his 2017 Music ‘Awards’ list, as seen from the comments.
Despite starting together musically, the two artistes later turned rivals with both of them claiming to be East Africa’s finest. The two however had made peace in recent years, but these social media outbursts is an indicator that their old rivalry is far from over.
“That's him"LEGEND" n he will be forever not that no sense of grading other fellow artist u don't know telling me that ur in SA it's not Abig deal that's my vip payment,” posted a fan by the name, Divine Maureen.
“I'm yr diehard but truth be told last year tobadde na work,” posted Rose De Genesis another fan.
