Hair thinning and baldness are common among men and usually ‘being men’ they may not know what options are in store to deal with this.  Almost 50 percent of men start losing their hair in their 20’s when they feel they are still too young to get bald. Because they don’t know any other options, they waver to try out a whole range of supposed solutions like to settle for a bald look or opt for caps or hats.

While technology is on the rise, this challenge has not been left out, options have been weighed and there is good news to the bald males. Hair Units. Some people simply call them ‘weaves’  But whatever you would prefer to call it, it is definitely helping men feel and look more confident.

The process of covering up the bald part of the head is as easy as installing the hair unit, cutting it and blending it for the style. Many Ugandan barbers haven’t introduced this trend to their customers though they are aware of it. It is doing wonders for men in the US.

Some Uganda men think it is the best solution while others feel they do not have to go for this artificial hair because they are not sure of its side effects. “I love baldness, it commands respect and looks cool, beside I would not know how to take care of the artificial hair on my head” says Vicent Kyeyune, a banker.

A barber at Afro American salon in Kampala,  Brian Mubiru says that some of his customers confess to considering the option of artificial hair units because of the way they feel about having bald head.

Maintenance

The hair unit lasts anywhere from a month to a year. Some are very temporary, others you can take off wash and reuse for time periods up to a year and you don’t have to worry about maintenance , it is very manageable which includes just wrapping it up at night with a  head sock or bandanna, Can you get the unit wet? Yes, you can.

However, remember, guys, this is not your real hair, you  cannot go deep diving and being ridiculous, but the barbers state that the unit can get wet, but keep the perspective that it is a hair unit!

Price:

The prices range on average anywhere from USD 275 for a temporary one to upwards of USD 800-1000 for one that lasts longer.

Hair style options available

Well, you can have whatever styles you want, but once again keep it realistic. Most of these barbers can create the style you desire. They asked that you send them pictures first of the style and then they'll build the consultation on that along with finding the right hair unit to match the texture of your current hair.

So, if you are bald and want a cool type of hair style, you should know that the procedure may be a little different. Ideally, they prefer clients to have some type of hair growth on the sides and the back but they can still work with someone completely bald.

Image is important to us guys too. So these hairstylists are helping guys feel better about their overall look. Guys, if you decide to go this route, please, please, please try to find someone that can not only install the unit, but is also able to cut it, blend it to your head naturally and teach you how to maintain it!

What causes baldness?

One cause of male baldness is genetics, or having a family history of baldness. Research has found that male pattern baldness is associated with male sex hormones called androgens. The androgens have many functions including regulating hair growth.

Each hair on your head has a growth cycle. With male pattern baldness, this growth cycle begins to weaken and the hair follicle shrinks, producing shorter and finer strands of hair. Eventually, the growth cycle for each hair ends and no new hair grows in its place.

Inherited male pattern baldness usually has no medical ill effects. However, sometimes baldness has more serious causes, such as certain cancers, medications, thyroid conditions, and anabolic steroids. See your doctor if hair loss occurs after taking new medications or when it’s accompanied by other health complaints.
