KIRUHUURA. President Yoweri Museveni has advised the people of Uganda to use their diverse cultural education as a basis for promoting unity. He said that sectarianism is negative because it only promotes societal disintegration.
"As regards African issues of promoting oneness, social integration, I cannot be pushed away. Those who encourage sentiments of clan and tribalism tendencies are enemies of society and unification,” he said.
The President was on Saturday addressing guests at a wedding reception of Mr. Alex Nuwamanya Rwakisheija and his bride Ms. Diana Kanyana at the home of the groom’s parents in Kyakabunga cell, Nyakashashara Sub-County in Kiruhuura District.
The couple had earlier in the day exchanged their marriage vows at St. Emmanuel Cathedral Rushere.
Mr. Museveni noted that cultural education in society should always be taken as a pillar for the promotion of unity so that in the long run cultural traits, languages, literature, agricultural and farming practices serve as tools for the enrichment of the entire society. He reminded guests of the recent history of the African continent and said that colonialists had defeated black Africans because of lack of unity.
He strongly advised Ugandans to appreciate the wisdom in working for the development of their country by banishing all elements associated with backwardness so that the country in particular and Africa in general can develop their socio-economic status.
The President thanked the family of Mr. and Mrs. Rwakisheija for valuing education.
