KAMPALA. First Lady Janet Museveni has said that it is good for one to marry their best friend so that their life together as a couple is enjoyable. She said couples who are both spouses and best friends never run out of time for each other and always have a happy and blissful marriage.
The First Lady, who is also Minister of Education and Sports, was addressing people who gathered at Namirembe Cathedral in Kampala on Saturday to witness the marriage ceremony of Paul Ssali and Joanita Nabulime, who is a daughter to Mr Kizza Seninde and Hon Rosemary Seninde the State Minister for Primary Education.
Mrs. Janet Museveni explained to the newlywed couple what the Bible says about real love in 1 Corinthians Chapter 13.
“Love is patient, love is kind, it does not envy and it does not boast, it is not proud, it does not dishonour others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, and it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth, it always protects, always trusts, always hopes, and always perseveres, it never fails,” she quoted the Bible. She encouraged Mr. and Mrs Ssali to observe this teaching as they start on their marriage journey and to always remember that love endures everything and does not fail.
She thanked both the bride’s and groom’s parents for raising their children very well and showing them how to do things the right way; by first taking their spouses- to- be to their parents for blessings and then going to Church to make their marriage covenant before God in the presence of family and friends unlike those who just cohabit or elope.
She said God is the creator of family and it is important for Him to bless the family at this initial stage and for the family to look to God in whatever they do.
Mrs. Museveni passed on the President’s congratulations and best regards to the young couple.
In his sermon, the main celebrant the Rt. Rev. Bishop Wilberforce Kityo Luwalira reminded the newlyweds that marriage was a gift from God and they should therefore be faithful to Him and be caring and loving to each other.
“The journey you have started will be one for you to discover the mysteries of love,” he said and advised them to always listen to God on a daily basis by reading the Bible and praying everyday so that He guides them on this journey of marriage.
Bishop Luwalira pointed out that currently, many people no longer have time for their families because of the pressure of working and making money which he said has contributed to family breakdown and advised Paul and Joanita to always have time for their family.
Hon. Rosemary Seninde advised the couple to always consider themselves gifts to each other.
She paid tribute to the First Lady for being an exemplary mother who has wedded off all her children in Church and thanked her for gracing her children’s marriage ceremony.
The Church service was also attended by the Minister for Trade, Industry and Cooperatives Hon. Amelia Kyambadde, MPs, Officials from the Ministry of Education and Wakiso District among others.
