KAMPALA. A historic meeting of two Uganda’s rival musicians Bebe Cool and Bobi Wine is stirring social media excitement.
Bobi Wine and Bebe Cool hugged and shared a table at ’10 Years of Eddy Kenzo’s concert that took place at the Kampala Serena Hotel on Friday night (January 4, 2019).
The two artistes that begun their musical journey together over a decade ago, doing a number of songs together have for years not looked eye to eye.
The rivalry has of recent taken a political twist with Bobi Wine, now Kyadondo East Member of Parliament opposing the ruling NRM government under the ‘People Power’ movement while Bebe Cool on the other hand supporting NRM and President Yoweri Museveni.
Appearing on the NBS television popular talk show ‘The Frontline’, Bebe Cool said he doesn’t rival legislator Robert Kyagulanyi but “my Bobi Wine the musician” saying it’s continuation of their music rivalry dating back over a decade ago.
“I can let him (Bobi Wine) go because he has never let go of me,” Bebe Cool said during the TV show.
However, the two rival artistes would find themselves at the same music concert a day later and the concert organizer, fellow artiste Eddy Kenzo did not disappoint.
In the middle of his performance, Kenzo paused for a while to invite Bobi Wine and his wife Barbie Itungo to the front table and later invited Bebe Cool to join the same table also shared by Buganda Premier Peter Mayiga.
The two rival artistes shook hands and hugged amid cheers from the crowd.
Photos of the two rivals shaking hands have taken social media by storm, with users sharing and commenting differently. While some are delighted to see the two music rivals together again, others had a caution for Ugandans not to be sucked into what they described as tricks by the two leading artistes to keep on top and continue making money.
As the excitement continues however, none of the two artistes had shared the pictures of the historic handshake on their social media accounts at the time of filing this story. Whatever this means, we wait to see.
