PARLIAMENT. An opposition MP on Thursday led the celebrations to toast to good life of Speaker Rebecca Kadaga on her 63rd birthday.
FDC's Cecilia Ogwal, Dokolo Woman MP took the House by surprise when she recognized Speaker Kadaga as a mother of substance who deserves all the earthly blessings.
Ogwal, also a parliamentary commissioner rose on point of procedure only to pay tribute to Kadaga, also NRM National female Vice Chairperson who was born on May 24, 1956.
"As the Head of this Institution, you [Kadaga] have become our mother and we are very proud with the way you have handled each one of us individually and collectively," Ogwal said as MPs drummed their seats in approval.
"I wish there was a way we could appreciate your parents because we are reaping the benefits of their investment and on this day of 24th, May, you were born to be our mother. May the Lord our God protect the Speaker and we declare that no one should ever attempt to harm our mother," Ogwal added as MPs rose on their feet and joined her to sing a rendition of 'happy birthday' song to Kadaga.
The Speaker who later on expressed the surprise birthday wishes was immediately handed a bouquet of roses.
