He is largely known for his recent role as the Contingent Commander of Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) in Somalia under the African Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).
Before that, Major General Sam Okiding had been the UPDF Commander of the Field Artillery Division based in Masindi, a position he retained after returning from his tour of duty in Somalia where he commanded UPDF troops on peace operations against Al-Shabaab militants for about two years.
On his return from Somalia, then a Brigadier, Okiding was promoted to the rank of Major General alongside other officers that were promoted or assigned various roles in January this year.
The Kampala Post has exclusively learnt that Gen Okiding last Friday wedded his lifelong partner in a secret wedding attended by UPDF’s top brass in Serere District in Teso sub region in Eastern Uganda.
Gen Okiding’s best man was his colleague and friend, Major General Gavas Mugenyi, the Commander of the UPDF Air Defense Division based in Nakasongola.
