Police in Wandegeya have arrested a man for being in possession of Government Stores, after he was arrested with a toy pistol, teargas canister and an army green uniform.

Haruna Kyambadde Kasiryo, a resident of Lugala Masanafu in Rubaga Division also had stickers belonging to the People’s Government in his car, a UPDF identity card and breaking implements among others.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Patrick Onyango says the suspect was arrested yesterday (Wednesday afternoon) at Wandegeya Traffic Lights Checkpoint. Onyango says the suspect driving in a Toyota Wish Reg. No UEB038V, was stopped by Detective Corporal Bruce Amanya to check whether he had a sticker allowing him to drive a private vehicle.

Government recently banned private vehicles to limit movement, as one of the measures to curb spread of covid19. Only cargo, government and private vehicles with stickers are allowed on road.

“Cpl Amanya searched the vehicle and found the driver in possession of a toy gun (pistol) black in colour and other stickers belonging to peoples' government,” Onyango said.

The suspect asked to be allowed to go claiming he was heading to Office of the Prime Minister to deliver relief to the covid19 National Task Force. “The suspect also had a UPDF identity card and a tear gas Canister. This prompted the detectives to interrogate him further and a team of them proceeded with the suspect up to his residence,” Onyango explained adding that while at the suspect’s residence, a lawful search was conducted where other items such as a uniform similar to that of the UPDF (army green in colour) and Breaking implements were recovered.

Kyambadde is currently detained at Wandegeya Police Station. He is charged with two counts of being in possession of Government stores and possession of breaking implements. “The file is being processed and he will appear in court any time,” Onyango said.
