KAMPALA. The army has pledged to take good care of jailed Kyadondo East Member of Parliament Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine) amid reports that the Musician-turned politician is unwell.
Defence Spokesperson Brig Richard Karemire said in a tweet, “In whatever condition Hon Kyagulanyi may be in as a result of the whole Arua Fracas, UPDF will ensure he receives adequate attention and care, now that he is under its safe custody.”
He added, “His family will also be able to visit him as per established procedure.”
Bobi Wine together with 33 others, among them fellow Members of Parliament were arrested on Monday following a campaign fracas in Arua during which opposition supporters attacked the President’s convoy.
While his co-accused were charged in the civil court, Bobi Wine was produced before court martial on Thursday and charged with unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.
The army has explained that the Member of Parliament had to appear before the army court since possession of firearms and ammunition is only a preserve of the Defence Forces. He was remanded until August 23.
