Several cases of such accidents have been reported with the recent having happened in October 2017, when a prominent businessman in Bugiri, Mr. Sanyu Madeke died under similar circumstances while he was on the waters of Lake Victoria in Dolwe Island. Two other people died along. The accident also happened at night at around 3:00am.
The Police Spokesman cautioned people using water transport to always travel during day time and use life jackets in order to save their lives.
Kayima added that travelling at night by water is risky since chances of being rescued are minimal.
