A number of youth groups have for some time now come out and purported to support and promote Major General Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s bid for the Presidency of Uganda.

Some of these groups have even opened social media pages particularly on Facebook in the name of General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, where they continue to hoodwink members of the unsuspecting public, according to Major Chris Magezi the spokesman/PRO, Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations (SPA/SO).

The latest is one group that calls itself ‘MK Generation’ led by one Jamil Kazibwe.

However, General Muhoozi says he has no knowledge of these youth groups and what they profess to represent.

Through his spokesperson, General Kainerugaba says that he has never met or interacted with any of these groups and therefore “the views and opinions they propagate are solely their own”.

“As he has stated on several occasions, when he is no longer a serving soldier in the UPDF he will make his decision about serving his country in other fields. Until then all groups that purport to represent him or his intentions should be viewed with some skepticism,” said Major Magezi.

Major Magezi said the group MK Generation “does not represent the General in any way and he has not commissioned them (or anyone else for that matter) to solicit for money or support for any political campaign in 2021. Anyone who gives them money does so at their own risk”.

According to Major Magezi, General Kainerugaba only runs one social media account on Twitter.

“For clarity, General Kainerugaba runs only one (verified) social media account on Twitter which is very popular and widely known, the handle is @mkainerugaba,” said Major Magezi in a statement dated November 9.

Major Magezi explained that other accounts created in the name of General Kinerugaba should be ignored as they are fake: “These accounts are fake and the act of opening them borders on fraud, they should therefore be ignored”.

Official spokesperson

Major Magezi also clarified that General Kainerugaba has an official spokesperson, should he need to pass on any message to the public.

“General Kainerugaba has one official spokesperson in the names of Maj. Chris Magezi who is the only one authorized to formally speak on his behalf. As is well known the General is also more than able to speak for himself (as he has done numerous times) when the occasion warrants,” said Maj Magezi.

Major Magezi said, however, that if some of these youth groups are merely fans of Maj. Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, “then he deeply appreciates their support and feels honored by their confidence in him,” said Maj Magezi although he hastened to warn: “They should however limit their support to declared positions that the General has made and not manufacture causes and opinions that are inaccurate and disingenuous. Maj.Gen. Kainerugaba has no intention to enter political activity for the foreseeable future”.

View them with skepticism

“As he has stated on several occasions, when he is no longer a serving soldier in the UPDF he will make his decision about serving his country in other fields. Until then all groups that purport to represent him or his intentions should be viewed with some skepticism,” said Major Magezi.
