KAGADI. A Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPG) and a total of 520 bullets have been discovered buried beneath the ground near a minor bridge in Pachwa, Kiryanga sub-county, Kagadi district.
The discovery was made on Monday by Shengli Engineering Construction Company, a Chinese firm contracted to tarmac the Kabwoya-Kagadi-Kyenjojo road.
Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police Spokesperson has confirmed the report saying the weapons were discovered as the road construction machines were extracting soils near the bridge in preparation for its construction.
Hakiza said police has already notified a team of Uganda People’s Defence Forces from Engineering Brigade at Mubende Barracks to make an assessment and take the equipment away.
He also said more military equipment might be discovered in the area.
“We are expecting more such weapons because we are told there was an army detach during the military insurgency but we want to call upon the public to remain calm as our soldiers carry out more assessment,” he said
The police has now advised the contractor to halt the construction work in the area until UPDF advises otherwise.
Government contracted Shengli engineering Construction Company limited to tarmac the 238km road at the cost of Shs214 billion and will be completed in three years’ time.
