President Yoweri Museveni on Monday cracked ribs of a congregation at All Saints’ Cathedral when he revealed that his wife and First Lady Janet Museveni had gone to Nigeria to look for God.
Museveni was speaking at a requiem mass for the late Maj. Ian Kangaho, a Special Forces Command (SFC) officer who passed on at International Hospital Kampala (IHK) on Saturday.
Maj. Kangaho, a nephew to First Lady Janet Museveni reportedly died of lung cancer aged 55.
In his speech, Museveni who never runs out of jokes even in a somber atmosphere presented apologies from the First Lady Janet who was not with him at the requiem mass.
“Janet is not here with me. She arrived this morning from Nigeria where she had gone to look for God,” Museveni said as the congregation burst into laughter.
The joke was so rib-cracking that even the owner of the joke (Museveni) was not spared.
He laughed his tears out and while wiping them with his handkerchief, he added, “When I studied Eucharist in Kyamatte, I was told that God is everywhere so I was wondering why one would go to Nigeria to look for God. So I prayed for her to return home safe and sound. When she heard about Ian’s death, she was worried and rang me, but I told her to handle issues in Nigeria, as I handle issues this side,” Museveni added.
