Musician Jose Chameleon real name Joseph Mayanja has this Tuesday went public to campaign for NRM in Jinja by-elections.

"I don't mind what others think and say but I am here to ask you to vote NRM and Nathan Nabeta in particular,” Chameleon pleaded to the voters at a rally in Jinja East Constituency.

According to a statement released by  Rogers Mulindwa, a Communications Officer at NRM, the singer who is arguably the best in Uganda and East Africa held Nabeta by hand and took about 10 minutes on stage campaigning for him.

Several other artists have attended the rally and entertained the voters.

These included Catherine Kusasira, Spice Diana, Gravity, Big Eye, Fred Sebatta, Nwagi and Teacher Mpamire (Mendo) among several others coordinated by events manager Balam Barugahara.

President Yoweri Museveni who is also the NRM party national chairman is expected to address the rally.

About the election

The Jinja East constituency MP seat that is hotly contested by NRM’s Nathan Igeme Nabeta and Forum for Democratic Change’s (FDC),  Paul Mwiru fell vacant after Court of Appeal in Kampala nullified Mr Nabeta’s victory and ordered fresh elections.

Nabeta’s victory was annulled on grounds of falsification of election results after Mr Mwiru contested his results on grounds that Nabeta connived with the Electoral Commission to alter results at Danida A-D polling station, which put him (Nabeta) at an advantage in the February 2016 elections.
