Police have arrested Makindye West Member of Parliament Allan Ssewanyana, accusing him of forcefully trying to close Kiruddu Hospital.
Kampla Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango said police could not allow any interference with operations of the hospital that receives hundreds of patients, thus picking up the Member of Parliament.
“ You know very well that facility accommodates hundreds of patients, the MP(Ssewanyana) forcefully tried to close it meaning he was putting lives of patients at stake,” Onyango said adding that the legislator has been detained at Nagalama police station, pending charges of holding an illegal assembly and inciting violence.
The youthful politician was arrested after resisting orders to call off his meeting with residents near the hospital, which police claimed was being conducted in the middle of the road. The legislator was addressing residents over the hospital sewage facility funds which he claimed had been swindled.
