One person was severely injured while two others survived unhurt, following a Wednesday evening accident involving a fuel tanker and a Fuso truck.

The accident occurred on Masaka Road at Kavule in Mpingi District, at around 10pm. Police Spokesperson Emilian Kayima identified the injured as Muhammad Muga, a Fuso truck driver, while the unhurt fuel tanker driver and the turn boy are yet to be identified.

Kayima explained that the accident occurred as the driver of a fuel tanker registration number UAX761V tried to avoid a head on collision with the Fuso truck registration number UAY 373W.In the process the tanker overturned and burst into flames.

“Our fire Brigade and Rescue Services fought and put out the fire after about two hours,” Kayima said. The injured truck driver was rushed to Mengo Hospital.

Meanwhile, UNRA teams from the Directorate of Road Infrastructure Protection & Road Maintenance are headed to the accident site to assess the damage.

According to UNRA’s media relations manager Allan Ssempebwa, part of the road was damaged and “repairing the road will not wait and the person who caused the damage will foot the bill.”
