However, during the launch of the campaign at Kapeeka Grounds in Nakaseke District on Wednesday evening, the OWC Chief Coordinator General Salim Saleh praised Walukagga and other Kadongokamu musicians for their educative music.
“I approached the President (Museveni) and told him how you, had good music, with messages to the people and I proposed that government should use you to spread the wealth creation message,” said Gen Saleh.
He said the President accepted his proposal and gave him Shs100million, adding that the money will be shared by winners in the Kadongokamu Music Competitions which were also launched at the same function. Although the General said he had carried the money in cash to the venue, it was not readily given out.
Andrew Benon Kibuuka, the President of Uganda Performing Artistes Association said the money would be given to the winners at the end of the Competitions at Namboole in December.
“We could not determine the winner today because all the artistes have not performed, you can’t rate someone as having won or lost without all of them participating,” Kibuuka explained.
Kibuuka added that at the end of the competitions, the winner will be crowned Operation Wealth Creation Ambassador, to do sensitization about the government program through music.
A team of judges led by Gospel Musician Dr. Tee (Travis Kazibwe) will determine the winner.
The function saw thrilling performances from Artistes; Mathias Walukagga, Lord Fred Ssebata, Willy Mukaabya, Fred Ssebbaale among others.
The artistes sung both new and old song compositions, with messages encouraging Ugandans to work hard, join farming and use Operation Wealth Creation program to elevate their household incomes. The Music performances moved the audience, prompting some of them to get to the dancing floor.
Christopher Kibazanga, the State Minister for Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries pledged total government commitment to supporting this campaign.
“I have no doubt the battle you have launched today will succeed and I pledge my Ministry’s support until we defeat poverty and hunger,” Kibazanga said.
