KAMPALA. Police have spoken out on social media reports accusing one of their officers, ASP Pamella Kentaro of spying on Kyadondo East Member of Parliament, Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine).
In a telephone interview with Kampala Post, Deputy Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango said Kentaro has been working with MP Kyagulanyi at his One Love Beach Busabala for long.
“She has been providing him (Kyagulanyi) security during Bivulu (Music shows) at Busabala. Police is not so dwarf to use the same person to spy on him,” Onyango said.
There was a social media frenzy on Thursday after a picture emerged of Bobi Wine seated close to ASP Kentaro in the Kenya Airways plane, as the legislator returned home from the United States of America where he has been for treatment.
Many social media users claimed that the Police Counter-terrorism officer had been deployed to spy on the opposition Member of Parliament. However, Onyango explained, “She (Kentaro) has been on a course in Mombasa. The most critical thing is Kyagulanyi knows her.”
Although Kyagulanyi has not yet spoken out on the espionage allegations, ASP Kentaro confirms being a longtime friend to Kyagulanyi and “he knows I am a police officer.” She says they bumped into one another at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport as she turned up to catch her flight back home.
Bobi Wine returned home on Thursday after about three weeks abroad on treatment, following injuries sustained during Arua Municipality campaign riots on August 13
Attached is a letter from the Judiciary requesting the Inspector General of Police to permit ASP Kentaro and other four officers to attend a training on information exchange. The training took place in Mombasa on September 17-19, 2018.
