The National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) says it now takes as little as sixty minutes for one to acquire a birth certificate or death certificate.
"We have further improved our turnaround time for civil registrations. Apply for a birth or death certificate and get it within an hour," the Authority said in a statement. "Visit any NIRA office near you and you will be attended to."
According to NIRA, the requirements to obtain a Birth Certificate are copies of national identity cards of both parents, a birth notification record from the place of birth, and a copy of your National ID if you are an adult.
The certificate costs Shs5,000 which is paid in the bank.
NIRA has offices in different parts of the country, including Mbarara, Arua, Gulu, Mbale, Main Post building, Georgia House and Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.
Application forms can be obtained from the NIRA website.
