Pilot The Only Survivor as 18 Die in Plane Crash
A plane crash in has claimed the lives of 18 passengers, with the pilot being the only survivor.
The Nepal domestic flight, operated by Saurya Airlines, was attempting to take off from Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu when it skidded off the runway and crashed into a ditch on Wednesday according to reports.
Rescue teams have reportedly retrieved all 18 bodies from the wreckage, while the pilot, who sustained eye injuries, is receiving treatment at Kathmandu Medical College Hospital.
Hospital sources told AP, the pilot's condition is stable and not life-threatening.
The cause of the crash is currently unknown, but an investigation is underway.
The plane was headed to the popular resort town of Pokhara when the incident occurred. Local media images show smoke billowing from the crash site, with debris scattered across the ditch. Emergency crews have brought the fire under control.
Tribhuvan International Airport, the main hub for international and domestic flights in Nepal, has been temporarily closed as emergency responders work to clear the area.
