Police have summoned the KCCA law enforcement team following Tuesday’s clash with illegal vendors in the Old Taxi Park.
The KCCA law enforcement officers together with the police clashed with the vendors in an operation to push out illegal operators. Three people were injured during the fracas that involved shooting of teargas and live bullets.
Patrick Onyango the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson says the law enforcement officers have been summoned to make statements which would help in the investigation of the incident.
“The enforcement team that participated in yesterday’s operation has been summoned to record statements and give an account on what happened during the incident,” Onyango said adding that the police are still awaiting a medical report to ascertain whether the victims sustained bullet wounds or not.
Those injured include; a mother Irene Nakacwa and her daughter Rachel Nankya, a student of Lugazi Mixed SSS and the other victim only identified as Jimmy. Onyango says the victims were rushed to Mulago hospital by police and “we are awaiting the scan results and the full medical report to establish the nature of injuries, whether they are due to shooting or crash injuries due to stampede.”
The Kampala Metropolitan CID Commander SSP Johnson OlaL Dale is heading the investigation. He has already visited the scene to obtain relevant witness statements and other evidence of material value.
