Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed is in Uganda for a one-day state visit, Senior Press Secretary to the President, Linda Nabusayi has said.

She said the Uganda leader would discuss matters of bilateral mutual interest with the Ethiopian Prime Minister.

“Holding a meeting with H.E @AbiyAhmedAli, the Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia who is in Uganda for a one-day working visit. I welcome H.E Abiy,” President Museveni said in a tweet.

Mr. Ahmed's visit comes a few months after a delegation from his country met President Museveni in Gulu.

The Ethiopian delegation then led by the Deputy Prime Minister, Demeke Mekonnen Hassen met Uganda’s president, Yoweri Museveni as they sought to end the Tigray crisis.

"Our discussion focused on the peace and security issues affecting Ethiopia currently. Being one of the oldest countries that was not colonized in Africa, Ethiopia is the pride of the continent. Africa's problem is that we never discuss ideology, focusing so much on diplomacy. I totally disagree with politics that focus on ethnic federalism. We must emphasize the issue of oneness and common interests because it is the only way we can prosper," Mr. Museveni posted on his social media platforms.

Mr Abiy was last in Uganda in 2018 and was awarded a medal of honor.

Tigray crisis

The ongoing fighting in Ethiopia's Tigray region is said to have resulted in a humanitarian crisis whereby up to 900,000 people in Tigray face famine conditions in what the UN has called the world's worst hunger crisis in a decade.
