Rotary Uganda Unveils Artistes for Africa Peace Concert 2025
Rotary Uganda has announced the headlining acts for the 4th Edition of the Africa Peace Concert, scheduled for January 10, 2025. The event, aimed at raising $500,000 to support the Makerere Rotary Peace Center, will feature performances by iconic Blue 3, Ghetto Kids, Iwera Band, and Felisax, a renowned saxophonist.
This annual concert is designed to promote peacebuilding and conflict transformation while connecting artistes with fans beyond traditional venues. Proceeds will help sustain the Makerere Rotary Peace Centre, the first of its kind in Africa.
Joseph Nuwamanya, Chairman of the Africa Peace Concert 2025, emphasized its significance. “The African Peace Concert is a platform for unity, advocacy, and action. Its purpose is clear: to raise $500,000 to support the sustainability of the Makerere Rotary Peace Center, a beacon of hope and a catalyst for leadership development in peacebuilding across Africa. Last year, we raised and donated $234,555 to the Peace Center, and we aim to surpass that this year,” he said.
Nuwamanya also lauded the artists involved. “We are honoured to have Uganda’s finest talents, whose voices have shaped our music landscape. Their positive response speaks volumes about their dedication, not just to their art, but also to the communities they serve.”
Rotary awards up to 151 fully-funded fellowships annually to global leaders who study at one of its peace centres. The fellows receive comprehensive training, networking opportunities, and practical experience to become catalysts for peace in various sectors, including national governments, NGOs, media, and international organisations.
Since its establishment, the Makerere Rotary Peace Centre has welcomed 110 peace fellows from 43 countries. The seventh cohort includes 21 fellows from 11 countries such as Botswana, Burundi, Cameroon, Argentina, and Australia. The fellows participate in a ten-week onsite programme that includes community field visits, providing firsthand experience of challenges and opportunities in affected areas.
These interactions have inspired fellows to develop social initiatives addressing youth and conflict, community resilience, education, economic empowerment, women and girl child empowerment, climate change, and peace journalism. To date, the Centre has supported 131 such initiatives.
The Africa Peace Concert 2025 promises a rich blend of music, culture, and advocacy. The event will be held at Nsambya Gardens, with tickets priced at $100, part of which will contribute to this noble cause.
