School Calendar Not Yet Issued, Says Education Ministry

posted onNovember 2, 2021

The Ministry of Education and Sports has said the calendar for the incoming academic year is still under development following some misleading reports that have been circulating in media saying it had been released.

"The Ministry of Education and Sports has NOT yet issued the School Calendar for Pre-Primary, Primary, and Secondary Education levels," the ministry said in a Tuesday statement, adding that "once it is ready, it shall be officially announced to the public."

President Yoweri Museveni has said schools will re-open in January of next year.

Schools were closed in June after the country went under the second lockdown after the rapid spread of the coronavirus.

The reduced spread of the virus has been attributed to this lockdown and the government has also stepped up healthcare infrastructure.

As of October 31, 3,189,173 doses of Covid vaccines had been administered, according to the health ministry and the test positivity rate now stands at only 0.7%.

Uganda's strategy is to vaccinate 22 million people, or 49.8% of the population.

President Museveni in his recent address said the country will have received 23 million doses of Covid vaccines by end of November.
