Speaker Announces Death of Dokolo Woman MP, Cecilia Ogwal

The Speaker of Parliament Anita Among has confirmed the death of long-serving MP Cecilia Ogwal who is said to have died in a hospital in India following a battle with cancer. She was 77 years old.

"It is with a heavy heart and pain that I announce the passing of our Mother, Mentor, and role model, Imat Cecilia Atim Ogwal, the Honourable Member representing the Women of Dokolo District," the Speaker's voice trembled with emotion as she delivered the news. "I send my sincere sympathies to her dear husband and the family, friends, the people of Lango, and colleagues! May her soul find eternal rest."

Honourable Imat Cecilia Atim Ogwal's passing sent shockwaves throughout the parliamentary community. Ogwal had been a stalwart figure in the political landscape, known for her dedication to serving her constituents and her passionate advocacy for the rights of women and marginalized communities. Ms Ogwal joined Parliament in 1996 and had never lost her seat since then.
