Special Investigations Division Takes over Probe into Pastor Bugingo Attempted Murder
The Special Investigations Division (SID) of CID headquarters in Kibuli has taken over investigations into the alleged attempted murder by shooting of Pastor Aloysius Bugingo and murder by shooting of his bodyguard, Richard Muhumuza, which occurred on January 2 at around 10pm at Bawalakata zone in Namungoona parish, Kawempe division.
In a January 8 statement, Police Spokesperson SCP Fred Enanga condemned false information being spread by netizens and assured the public that the case is being diligently handled.
"Already, the internet, social media, netizens, and propagandists are awash with all sorts of versions and fringe statements, which are quite absurd. So many people, including families who lost their loved ones under similar tragic circumstances, are hurt by the fringe beliefs of the bloggers, the majority of whom are based in UAE, Turkey, and Boston," said the police spokesman.
"Although part of the police findings were leaked to the media through informal sources, we would like to assure the country that we have comprised a competent team that is actively investigating the matter at the SID. They are continuing to obtain witness statements, retrieved post-mortem reports, CCTV, forensic and ballistic reports for further evaluation and flow of investigations."
The law enforcement agency has also offered a cash prize of Shs20 million to anyone with information that might help with the case.
"As part of investigations, we do appeal to whoever has any information that may lead to the identification and arrest of the suspects, as well as the successful recovery of the killer weapon of a pistol, to pass it in confidence to the Special Investigations Division at CID headquarters in Kibuli or ring the task team on telephone contact 0741111333," Enanga said. "A substantial cash reward of Ugx 20M (Twenty Million), shillings only, awaits any member of the public who avails us credible information that can lead to the arrest of the suspects and recovery of the killer weapon."
A progressive report will be availed in due course, he said.
