800 To Participate in Uganda's 14th Inter-Forces Games

Launching the Inter-forces Games on Saturday, during a joint presser also attended by representatives from Uganda Wildlife Authority, Uganda Prisons Service and Uganda Police Force at the Uganda Media Center, Chief of Defence Forces Gen. David Muhoozi emphasized the importance of games and sports in building teamwork, physical fitness, discipline and other individual benefits for men and women in the armed forces.

KAMPALA. Over 800 members of Uganda’s Armed Forces will take part in the 14th Inter-forces Games and Championship. The games hosted by the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) will run from September 15-24, 2018 at Namboole Stadium, Land Forces Headquarters Bombo and Kigo Range Shooting Grounds.

Launching the Inter-forces Games on Saturday, during a joint presser also attended by representatives from Uganda Wildlife Authority, Uganda Prisons Service and Uganda Police Force at the Uganda Media Center, Chief of Defence Forces Gen. David Muhoozi emphasized the importance of games and sports in building teamwork, physical fitness, discipline and other individual benefits for men and women in the armed forces.

General Muhoozi revealed that the games have a general objective of “continuously, deliberately and consciously enhance joint operations for sustainable national security and socio-economic development and transformation, which the Forces have already done and accomplished individually and jointly, in the pursuit of their respective mandates.”

He added, “It’s also important to maintain cordial relations between the Armed Forces and the civilians and amongst the Armed Forces themselves. This event aims at promoting and enhancing that important aspect as well.”

The event will attract participation from members of the Uganda Police Force, Uganda Prisons Service, Uganda Wildlife Authority and Uganda People’s Defence Forces.

Participants will undertake eight sports disciplines, which include Football (Men), Netball, volleyball (Men), handball (men and women) and Darts (Men and Women). Others will include Taekwondo (Men and Women), Athletics (Men and Women) and also Range Shooting (Men and Women).

Prime Minister, Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda will officially open the games on Sunday at Land Forces Headquarters in Bombo.

The event is under the theme, ‘Inter-Forces Games and Championship for Enhancing Joint Operations for Sustainable National Security and Socio-economic Development.’

Winners will be given trophies, medals and money.
