Uganda Premier League Champions, KCCA FC and Ethiopia's domestic league champions, St George FC settled to a goalless stalemate in the 1st leg of CAF Champions League first round game at Addis Ababa Stadium on Wednesday.
In the opening minutes, KCCA looked deadly, causing threats to the hosts’ backline bodies but thanks to Ugandan born custodian, Robert Odongkara who denied the visitors any breakthrough.
Midfield sensation, Paul Mucureezi came closest at the 6th minute when he went one on one with St George's Odongkara but his effort hit the custodian's body rather than the back of the net.
KCCA defender, Mustafa Kizza would have put his side up with a goal but his free kick after Mucureezi was fouled went wide.
Forward, Derrick Nsibambi later stepped up for the occasion in the 22nd minute after a quick inter play with Muzamir Mutyaba but his efforts also went wide.
Just five minutes to break time, the hosts would have pulled one goal courtesy of Aschalew Tamene but thanks to KCCA's goal keeper, Charles Lukwago who was equal to the task.
Just after the break, KCCA was again attacking from all angles and with two minutes spent in the second half, midfield sensation, Allan Okello struck a thunderbolt but Odongkara was equal to the task.
With things not working out, Muhammad Shaban was introduced in the 72nd minute in place of Mucureezi but still he made no impact and the two sides settled to a goalless stalemate.
KCCA FC is returning home today (Thursday) by midday with the second leg set to be played on March 17, 2018 at the Star Times Stadium, Lugogo.
