Uganda National Men’s Cricket team – Cricket Cranes were on Friday flagged off for the International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cricket League (WCL) Division III tournament slated for November 7-22 in Muscat, Oman.
Uganda hosted the 2017 WCL Div III tournament but they were relegated to Div IV following a loss to the United States. However, they bounced back after emerging Division IV champions in Malaysia early this year.
Cricket Cranes are heading to Oman after a successful tour of South Africa in which they had an opportunity to test fine skills of South African cricketers.
‘’Apart from the South Africa trip, we have also been practicing here at home and we are in fine shape. We shall focus on both fielding and batting,’’ Roger Mukasa, the team skipper noted.
The team will leave the country this Sunday aboard Emirates Airlines aiming for promotion to Division II.
The Oman games will also form part of the 2017-2022 cycle of the World Cricket League (WCL) that determines the qualification for the 2023 Cricket World Cup.
The games will be played in a round-robin format and the top two out of the six teams will progress to Division II scheduled for April 2019 in Namibia.
Uganda will play its first game on November 9 against Denmark before taking on USA on November 10, Kenya(November 13), Singapore(November 15) and finally against hosts Oman on November 19 and then return home the next day.
