The FUFA Beach Soccer Arena has been officially commissioned at the Kitubulu lake side, Entebbe.
The brief function was graced on Monday evening by CAF General Secretary, Amr Fahmy, CAF Deputy General Secretary Anthony Baffoe, CAF Fustal and Beach Committee Chairperson Eng. Moses Magogo and his deputy Leodegar Tenga, FUFA CEO Edgar Watson, FUFA Beach Soccer Delegate Anthony Tumwesigye and the Committee members among other dignified guests from the football universe.
Moses Magogo also FUFA President lauded CAF for allowing his FUFA team to organize the committee meeting in Uganda which later led to the official opening of the arena in question.
''We thought of this project as soon as CECAFA awarded Uganda the hosting rights of the 2018 CECAFA Beach soccer championship. We thank the local authorities for helping us acquire this land and we also thank CAF for their efforts towards beach soccer development in Uganda,'' Magogo noted at the function.
To seal the function, the dignified guests unveiled a ceremonial stone with a tree planted as a justification of conserving the environment.
Justus Mugisha, the head of this project admitted that the project will be finished by May 2018.
May 2018 will also be the same time the 2018 CECAFA Beach Soccer championship rolls on at the same turf with countries like Uganda (host), Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Zanzibar, Sudan, South Sudan, Djibouti, Somalia and Eritrea ready to grace the occasion.
Earlier on Monday afternoon, the CAF Fustal and Beach Soccer Committee met at Protea Hotel in Entebbe where they deliberated key proposals.
The Committee also toured FUFA Headquarters in Mengo and later watched a fustal match at the Fustal international Courts, Mengo.
Parakeets beat Typhoons 4-3 in a match attended by well decorated football elites.
Fustal is a variant of association football played on a hard court, smaller than a football pitch, and mainly indoors. It can be considered a version of five-aside football.
