BUKEDEA. KCCA FC on Saturday beat rivals Vipers SC at the Bukedea Emokori Grounds to win the Uganda Cup for a record 10th time.
Prior to kick-off, odds were against KCCA FC after goal poacher Mohammad Shaban was left out of the team with an injury.
It was Julius Poloto, also the Uganda U-20 Captain who made the difference with a 42nd minute header, his goal was still the only difference at the end of the game.
Right from kick-off, Teso-based fans were cheering KCCA for their own reasons but later it was revealed that they thought that KCCA duo of Allan Okello and Julius Poloto were from Teso which was not the case.
Meanwhile, with Vipers seeking to make amends after the break, by the 66th minute they had made three substitutions through Steven Mukwala replacing Moses Wasswa and Brian Nkuubi and Steven Mukwala introduced for Dan Sserunkuma and Duncan Sseninde respectively.
However, the trio was late for the show because by this time KCCA were safeguarding their territory to avoid late drama.
Sadam Juma red card
With 20 minutes to play, Vipers were handed an advantage when KCCA’s Sadam Juma was given shown a red card for a deliberate handball but the ‘Venoms’ failed to capitalize on this.
Moments later, midfield Paul Mucureezi missed a chance to doubled KCCA’s lead with his efforts going wide.
The win implies that KCCA will represent Uganda at the 2018 CAF Confederation Cup.
KCCA held their victory party at Wash and Wills Hotel in Mbale Town with the fans and players involved in various entertainment activities throughout the night.
