More Medals for Uganda As Miiro Reaches Boxing Semis At Commonwealth Games

Uganda continues to shine at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia after kick boxer Juma Miiro reached the semi-finals in the men's 46-49kg kick-boxing category.

Miiro ousted his Kenyan opponent Shafi Hassan 3-2 (29-28, 27-29, 27-29, 29-28, 29-28) at the Oxenford Stadium as Uganda looks set to snatch another medal.

Miiro is now the first boxer in Uganda to qualify for the semi-finals in this year's Commonwealth games.

Miiro, 22 is set to return to the ring on against Amit Jumat of Indonesia on Friday at 5:17am Ugandan time during the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, Indonesia's Amit beat Scotland's Aqeel Ahmed to reach the semi-finals of the same category.

Miiro is now assured of a medal as all semi-finalists are assured of medals and should he progress to the finals, he will either bag gold or bronze.

Miiro is set to fight from the red corner while Amit will be based at the blue corner.

Uganda's other two boxers; Reagan Ssimbwa and Musa Bwogi are in the quarter finals of the 81kg category and will be in the ring later today.

Uganda already has three medals (two gold and one bronze) in the same event and should Miiro advance, they are likely to return home as heroes.
