Russia's tennis star, Ivan Nedelko on Sunday won the Futures One (F1) International Tennis Federation (ITF) Pro Circuit main event (singles) at the Lugogo Tennis Complex, Kampala.
He was the top seed in this tournament and his triumph was no surprise to the tennis freaks who were served to high class tennis in Lugogo.
Nedelko beat the 17-year- old English starlet George Loffhagen by (6-4, 6-4) albeit the young boy being the fans favorite taking on the 31-year old Russian.
In fact, Loffhagen was the first to reach the main event finals after beating Serbia's Goran Markovic by (6-4 6-4) in the semi-finals.
However, Nedelko later beat India's Kaza Sharma by (6-2 7-6) to set a date with the English man at the final.
Nedelko admitted that the Lugogo tennis court clay surface helped him a lot since it is his favorite kind of turf albeit the effort he put to see of the spirited English man.
''The clay surface is my favorite and I find comfort playing on it. But I also put up great effort because George was giving me hard time especially in the second set,'' Nedelko noted after the win.
However, in the Doubles finals, India's Anand Kunal and Canada's Samaha Giovani combined to beat India's Kaza and Serbia's Markovic by (6-3, 2-6, 10-8).
Meanwhile, Uganda's duo of Duncan Mugabe and Boris Aguma were knocked out of the tournament even before making it to the classifications stage.
Mugabe, Uganda's top seed had showed potential in the qualifiers by winning three sets (6-1 3-6 6-4) but failed to live to the fans expectations.
Futures Two (F2) of the same event will start on Monday, 7th at Lugogo tennis complex with the same stars poised for glory quest.
The ITF Pro Circuit provides an en route to professional tournaments for players to participate in international tennis events on the ATP World Tour.
