With all the top flight top guns progressing in the 2018 FUFA Uganda Cup, SC Villa are no exception as they also jumped into the arena of the last 32 after edging Hope Doves 2-0 at their turf, Masaka Recreational Grounds.
Prior to the game, there were fears of SC Villa to be awarded a walk over after Hope Doves delayed for the occasion.
Luckily for the Doves, they showed up ten minutes after the scheduled kick off time which is within the international standard.
Close to half an hour to the end of the match, Villa fans were getting more uncomfortable as their side were tightly held by non-league Doves.
To Villa relief, the dread lock was broken at the 70th minute through second half substitute Ambrose Kirya who scored from the spot.
Doves made efforts to respond but Villa’s organized backline was very alert to avoid any form of scares.
With the game close to the end, Doves’ hearts were broken when strike George Ssenkaaba fired home from close range to double the Jogoos lead.
The win ensured that Villa who are currently the top flight table leader are through to the round of the last 32.
On the same match day, Mbarara City beat Lungujja Galaxy to win the game by 5-3 in aggregate albeit a very spirited fight.
However, the game between Doves All Stars and Agape SS was not played after the later failed to show up for the occasion.
This therefore implies that Doves All Stars are through to the round of the last 32 without wasting any sweat.
The round of the last 32 fixtures will be out shortly with some of the top flight sides likely to be paired hence increasing competition in the tournament.
